Colin Macdonald (June 19, 1953 - July 31, 2021) was born in Irvine, Scotland. Colin grew up in the Kingston, Ontario area and graduated from Queen’s University with an undergraduate degree in Geological Engineering, and obtained his Masters degree in Geology from the University of Saskatchewan.
Colin had a 35-year career as a mineral exploration geologist, mostly within the uranium industry in Saskatchewan, and was a key member of the Cameco Corporation exploration team for over 30 years. Colin served many years as Cameco’s Vice-President, Exploration before his retirement.
Colin was a founding Director of UEX Corporation, serving on the Board of UEX Corporation from 2001 until his retirement at the end of 2016. Colin was a great mentor, a visionary, and was instrumental in helping UEX become established and listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange at a time when uranium prices were at all-time lows and when investors were skeptical about the future of nuclear power, well before the resurgence of the uranium junior exploration sector. Whether working as a geologist or loving life in retirement, Colin had a profound appreciation of the natural world.
UEX has established a scholarship in honour of Colin that will be awarded annually to a student with Canadian residency pursuing a post-graduate degree in the geological sciences specializing in mineral exploration studies and have the goal of continuing their professional career in the mineral exploration industry.
